“At some point Venice, the longtime epicenter of Los Angeles cool, surrendered its title to other neighborhoods, like Silver Lake and Los Feliz. But some recently opened businesses are beckoning that attention back, particularly along Rose Avenue, thoroughfare to the Pacific Ocean …Oscar Hermosillo opened a boutique wine shop here two years ago but decided he wanted something more. After a four-month renovation, he recently reopened the wine shop as a casual restaurant. Lunchtime is bustling with locals chowing down on pressed sandwiches, salads and a hearty selection of cheeses and meats.
At night, the heated front patio fills up with a jaunty crowd of California hipsters.”

“City Gem! Venice's transformation from the sister nabe of Loisaida into Williamsburg West continues with the re-opening of Venice Beach Wines on the increasingly de-sketchified Rose Ave (aka the “next Abbot Kinney”). Once a hand-curated wine boutique, the spot has recently reinvented itself as a half bottle shop, half wine bar, introducing table service and a simple-but-elegant menu of fancy cheese and small plates…on the store's candle-lit wood-and-stone patio.”

“
Hit this wine store and cafe for a lazy, Napa Valley-style afternoon: small-lot organic wines, charcuterie, artisanal cheeses, and sandwiches like BBQ pate and fontina w/caramelized onions and arugula, which you can take down on a sunny front porch...

“
Stop wine-ing! Start bellyfilling at Venice's newest, blink-and-you'll-miss-it wine shop and eatery, Venice Beach Wines. Snag the good seats under its recycled wood gazebo out back and chow on local and sustainable stuff like the melt-tastic three-cheese panini with white truffle, cheddar, gouda, and mozzarella, and creative salads ... We went simple with Fra'Mani's responsibly raised pork salumi and Foret's Organic Saison ale (a vanilla-cinnamony awesome bomb). If the patio's too crowded, at least grab a bottle of organic, black cherry and berry Luzon Verde, and go. Hey, you can always whine about your hangover...

“Spearheading the Rose Avenue renaissance, this wine shop seems to focus just as much on its cheese selection. Pairing food with drink is a passion here, and private tastings and light meals can be catered. Or pick up your own selection to try at home. Or eat in: the patio area is a nice place to enjoy a house-made salad, sandwich or charcuterie plate.”

“
4.5 stars.
One of LA’s best new bars.
This place goes a long way in showing you how much customer service makes for a great experience. It's not just about selection, but feeling the passion that the owners have for their business and the wines. When I told the owner that I needed a dry Reisling to cook with (see the simple Alsatian chicken stew in the March issue of Gourmet), not only did he find something right away, but gave me a few bucks off since I was going to use it for cooking wine.
